The AIS Automation/electronic Terrain and Obstacle (TOD) Seminar/Workshop and the Fourth Meeting of ICAO AIS–AIM Implementation Task Force (AAITF/4) were graciously hosted by Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) at the ANA Crowne Hotel in Narita, Japan from 23 - 24 and 25 - 27 February 2009, respectively.
The Seminar/Workshop was attended by as many as 160 participants from Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong China, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam, IFALPA and Jeppesen. The participants took this opportunity to learn quite extensively from the presentations mainly from Eurocontrol.
The subsequent AAITF/4 was attended by 62 experts (the photo below). The meeting continued the work to rectify the deficiencies in the AIS field, particularly the critical importance of adherence to the AIRAC provisions was recognized. The meeting concluded that Asia and Pacific Regions need to pursue the work programme to enable the global transition from AIS to AIM, including the amendments to Annexes 15 and 4, and associated guidance material such as a global strategy/roadmap for the transition from AIS to AIM.
